Hiatus

I had a bit of a hiatus from posting, because I was in Utah for my dear FIL's funeral. Hopefully I'm back on track now.

I was planning on bitter melon last night, since DH was away, but never got to it. So tonight I will have eggplant ocazu, since DH will be back. Not sure when I'll get to use the bitter melon.

Pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe

DH was very late getting home from Lancaster tonight, so I needed something that could hold a bit. I made this recipe and it was quite good. Sauteed some zucchini in butter & garlic to go with it & bob's your uncle - dinner.

Luz's Fish

Tonight I cooked the last of Luz & James's bluefish. I used the steeped fish recipe in Irene Kuo's book. Very nice with the toppings. I also made garlic eggplant and broccoli in black bean sauce, and rice of course.

Spare ribs

Friday night we ate out at Tiffanys (I had a bacon blue cheese burger, but only ate 1/2, and ordered veggies instead of fries) and last night we had leftover pork chops, salad, and purple sweet potatoes.

Tonight, we had spare ribs "barbecued" in the oven, beets, braised celery and TJ's brown rice medley. I made the barbecue sauce using Joy of Cooking's "ferocious barbecue sauce."

Leftovers last night; chicken tonight

Because of BMO practice, we had leftovers last night.  Tonight, it will be chicken of some sort, with beets I think.

I get pretty tired of chicken breast.  It can be so dry and tasteless.  But it is lo-cal and on sale is relatively inexpensive, so we do have it often.

DH was really late getting home.  I made moo goo gai pan with the chicken, leftover rice, and leftover japanese pickles.  Not bad, really.

Ma Po Tofu

Tonight it was ma po tofu, made with age leftover from the party.  As accompaniments, we had bok choy and cauliflower, stir-fried separately, and rice of course.  For dessert - apple crisp.  Yum!

Soba

We had lots of dashi left from the party last week, so tonight we finished that off with some soba, age, surimi, mizuna, carrots, and mushrooms.  Very tasty.  Accompanied with various Japanese pickles also left over from party.

Corn Chowder tonight

Tonight we'll have corn chowder, brussels sprouts salad, and crudites with red pepper/artichoke tapenade from Trader Joe's.

Yes, it is stuffed cabbage tonight

What a job it is to prepare stuffed cabbage!  I hope it is good.  I'll update later.

I'm planning on rosemary roasted potatoes and jicama salad to go with.  Jicama salad was pretty good.   The stuffed cabbage was a lot better when I put ketchup on it.  I guess I just generally prefer stuffed cabbage in a tomato sauce.  Anyone know any good recipes?

It was pasta with salmon

Expedience won out, and so I made pasta with nova lox, sun-dried tomatoes, onions, and bunashimeji mushrooms in cream sauce.  To go with it, I made a simple salad of bosc pear with feta on iceberg lettuce with Ginger Pear dressing (Maple Grove Farms) and shredded brussels sprouts.  This latter turned out to be especially tasty.

Will it be cabbage rolls tonight?

My plan was to have stuffed cabbage for dinner tonight.  I have a ton of cabbage from last week, when it was FREE at my local grocery, in honor of St. Patrick's Day.  And I just got a recipe from my friend Annie that I want to try.  I like stuffed cabbage but have never found THE recipe.  But it says to cook for three hours, and I just don't think I'm going to be ready in time for that.

So maybe I will plan for it for tomorrow, and tonight make pasta with salmon.  I have the salmon leftover from the weekend when we had a make-your-own sushi party.  I'm afraid of raw fish from the grocery, so just use nova lox.  There isn't a lot leftover, but I think it is enough to make my pasta dish.

If I make the pasta, I will have brussels sprouts and fennel/orange salad with it.
